The Energy Democracy Project is working to understand what actions workplaces are taking across the North East region to reduce their energy consumption and improve sustainability to future-proof offices, factories and other spaces of work.
Please take a moment to tell us about your work, what kinds of measures you have taken at your workplace (if any), and what support you would like to improve your understanding of decarbonising workplaces.
We want to learn about the great action workers are currently taking within their workplaces to improve sustainability, health and safety, and the wellbeing of staff and what barriers remain. We need your expertise to directly shape regional policy.
Please fill out this short survey for your chance to win a £100 John Lewis shopping voucher. https://tinyurl.com/unionexamples
The survey closes: 6 April 2023.
Please contact helen@energydemocracyproject.com if you have any questions about the survey.
The Energy Democracy Project and the North of Tyne Combined Authority are running a series of online, paid workshops for workers in two key sectors in the region – agriculture and construction – to share their experiences and discuss what a fair and inclusive transition to a low-carbon economy means to them.
The workshops will be participant-led, with small group discussions following the ‘world café’ model. This involves informal conversations where participants examine an issue or question in small groups with the help of a discussion host. The workshops will be based on four key themes: sustainability, skills and knowledge, the nature of work in the sector and government support.
Please register your interest in taking part in a workshop below:
For the Future of Farming in the North East Workshop, please sign-up here.
For the Future of Construction in the North East Workshop, please sign-up here.
The workshops are open to anyone interested in working in these sectors, currently employed in these sectors, and people studying a relevant course in these industries.
The workshops will take place in late February and early March 2023. Participants will be paid £30 for their attendance.
The workshops are an opportunity for people involved within these sectors to have their voices heard by a wider audience and directly shape the recommendations of regional just transition policy.

Get involved by having your say! Please click on the following survey links for:
- low-carbon construction, retrofit and energy efficiency, and
- supporting a sustainable future for agriculture
The information we collect from the surveys will directly inform the North of Tyne Just Transition project and report (to be published in June 2023).
The surveys will close 28 February 2023.
Please contact the Just Transition Team at: helen.coulson@northoftyne-ca.gov.uk
and ben@energydemocracyproject.com if you have any questions about the surveys or the project.
We have two news surveys for you to complete!
This is your opportunity to help plan for a green, inclusive and sustainable regional economy.
We would like to hear your thoughts on the future of two important energy-intensive sectors in the North of Tyne – the construction industry and the agricultural sector.
How can we support green jobs and green skills development in these sectors to ensure that we work together to address the climate emergency, biodiversity loss and support an inclusive economy?
Please get involved by having your say by completing these short surveys on:
- the construction sector and retrofit, and
- supporting a sustainable future for agriculture
You do not need to be an expert in any of these areas. We want to hear from as many people as possible so we can learn from your input to successfully plan for the new green jobs and green skills that we need to shape a sustainable, thriving North of Tyne region.
We appreciate all your comments and are grateful for the time you have taken to engage with the project so far!
If you would like any further information or have any questions about the surveys, please contact the Just Transition Team at: helen.coulson@northoftyne-ca.gov.uk and ben@energydemocracyproject.com
Please note both the surveys will close on 28 February 2023.
